Elodie Oriol
This research is centred around the study of the evolution of artistic careers by assessing the role of aristocratic intervention in the fashioning of professional success.
Elodie Oriol holds a doctorate in modern history (thesis in co-supervision between France and Italy) and is a member of the International Associate Wokshop (LIA) “MéditerraPolis. Espaces urbains, mobilités, citadinités. Europe méridionale-Méditerranée (XVe-XXIe siècles)”, involving the University of Aix-Marseille and the University of Rome “La Sapienza”. In her thesis entitled “Vivre de la musique à Rome au XVIIIe siècle: lieux, institutions et parcours individuels” (“Making a living through music in Rome in the 18th century: venues, institutions and individual paths”), discussed in December 2014, she analysed the venues and institutions where musicians practiced their craft, as well as specific practices observable in each of them, taking into account both their peculiarities, such as inter-weaving or permeability, and the development of their careers, starting from quantitative evaluations such as the reconstitution of their individual paths.
Her research sits at the intersection between social, economic and political history, music history and the history of cultural practices in modern Italy.
